All members of our staff both uniformed and civilian are unpaid volunteers who we train to a high standard to lead our activities. Very few have been in the armed forces but in general most have either been Sea Cadets themselves or their children have been involved in Sea Cadets.

There are several classes of staff. Uniformed Staff, Civilian Instructors and Committee. All personnel who have access to Cadets are CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checked.

The majority of Uniformed Staff are Cadets themselves who have attained the age of 18 and remain faithful to the survival of the organisation. Reaching the age of 18 does not mean your carrer has ended. There are many other qualifications to take with the aim of instruction.

Civilian instructors are members of the public who want to become involved and bring with them one or more skills. Further training in SCC specific techniques is always available. They are expect to undergo training so the skills they teach are in line with the common syllabus. Each unit is always in need of more instructors. If you can give some committed time please talk to a member of Uniformed Staff.

No organisation can successfully survive without the strong backing of a committee. Each SCC unit is no exception. The Committee members are very often parents of or previously had children at the unit. The committee is responsible for the financial running of the Unit. Whilst fees are charged for each Cadet this nowhere covers the overall running costs. There is always a need to seek further sponsorship and donations. Often the committee are the unsung hero’s of the unit.
